Stop Negative Self-Talk Before It Utters Another Word

As humans, we’re sometimes very hard on ourselves with negative self-talk. Whether we’re conscious of it or not, our beliefs can sometimes be very damaging to our self-esteem. Unfortunately, these negative talking points in our head sometimes keep us stuck in a rut. At our naturopathy healing center we explore various ways to which we can eliminate this negative-self talk and replace it with more loving, supportive conversations. There is holistic near me, that encourages healing in the body, mind, and spirit of the person.

A great psychologist, Albert Ellis, had many tokens of wisdom to pass around. One of his ideas centralized around these negative thoughts and negative self-talk, which he often referred to as irrational beliefs. In our naturopathy healing center, we explore these irrational beliefs and determine what is healthy and what is not in a setting of holistic near me.

Discover how you can stop this vicious circle and turn your self-talk into words that support and encourage you, instead. Your mind is a powerful tool that can be used to help you heal and overcome any obstacle.

Negative Self-Talk

First Step: Pay Attention to Triggers

The first step to stopping negative self-talk is figuring out what is triggering these negative beliefs in the first place. These can be somewhat tricky and somewhat easy to find. In our naturopathy healing center, we recommend that you journal these triggers out. These can be seen as emotional reactions, frustrations, aggravations, worries, etc. Any emotion that does not make you feel good is a trigger.

Albert Ellis called these so-called triggers “activating events.” These can be everyday occurrences that happen to us or around us. Holistic near me, explores the impact of these happenings and how they impact the internal environment or the other way around. Anything from having your boss or supervisor yell at you and take away your project to experiencing a run-in collision with a deer on a country road can be an activating event. These activating events can be subtle as well, a promotion, a higher work demand, a partner who wants more from you can also lead to activating emotional events.

Are you in conflict with another? Did something not go your way? These are often clues that we look for at a holistic near me naturopathy healing center.

Further, triggers can also be incredibly personal to you and unique to your life. These are sometimes referred to as “red flags.” Red flags are issues that pertain to you alone, such as your weight, family and close relationships, integrity, and anything else that you deem sacred. These can be tied to subtle and not so subtle events from the past. In our naturopathy healing center, we uncover these past buried emotions and help you to restore your emotional health.

When these issues get raised, they immediately set off an alarm within you. In holistic near me, we understand these alarm bells trigger physiological reactions such as increased cortisol production, epinephrine, norepinephrine releases, etc. The body becomes overwhelmed and overworked from the stress response.

Identify Irrational Beliefs

These irrational beliefs are the real culprits behind why we get upset or angry at the triggers we’ve just experienced, according to Albert Ellis. It’s not the trigger itself, but the beliefs that cause the negative self-talk. These beliefs are based on perceptions, beliefs, experiences from the past. Your beliefs form themselves from 0-8 years old and are sometimes passed down from ancestral ties.

Ellis claimed that these irrational beliefs are responsible for our emotional states, also known as the consequences of our beliefs. In this way, by identifying and then changing these beliefs, we can experience fewer emotional consequences. In our naturopathy healing center, we teach our practice members and guests skills, and tools in order to dig these past beliefs up to the surface. As we examine more holistic near me, we are able to transform these beliefs into new elevated beliefs of self.

For example, let’s look at this process:

  • You just learned that you got turned down for a promotion at work.
  • Getting turned down for the promotion is the activating event or trigger.
  • The underlying thoughts or irrational beliefs you might be having include, “I’m never going to advance my career,” “My boss hates me,” or even “My boss is never fair to me.”
  • These beliefs or thoughts can lead to emotional consequences of sadness and depression.
  • To take it even a step further, the underlying belief exists that you are not good enough, nothing ever works, or that you are not worthy of receiving in your life. These core beliefs have created so many issues with your work, your relationships, etc.

Dispute Irrational Beliefs

The idea behind identifying these negative, irrational beliefs is so you can do something to change them. In our naturopathy healing center, our goal is to help you to identify these beliefs and transform.

You can change them by challenging these beliefs. This is a process of examining the truth and reality and seeing that it is different from your belief. This can be a challenging process, and one that is helpful when done with another person. The other person in a practice of holistic near me, helps you to explore these concepts in a safe space. They will also help you to see yourself and provide you the tools and goals you need to heal.

In the prior example of getting turned down for a promotion, a series of questions can be asked to help you sort through reality from these irrational beliefs. You want to challenge yourself by asking questions that are almost the opposite of your identified beliefs. It can be helpful to journal these concepts and work to reframe these into beliefs that you want in life.

Some of these challenge questions may be:

  • What is the truth in this situation?

  • Do I have evidence to support that my current beliefs are true?
  • In the example above: Are there times when my boss has been fair?
  • Is it true that I’ll never advance in my career, or is this just a minor setback?
  • What did I make this situation mean about myself?
Negative Self-Talk

These questions can help you identify the truth from what you may erroneously believe or negatively think about a situation or yourself. The more honest you can be with a mindset of holistic near me, the more you are able to discover, uncover, and transform these limiting beliefs. Our naturopathy healing center, is designed to help you to transform especially how these thoughts impact your health.

If you can identify the truth, this can lead you to think differently and avoid suffering the emotional consequences of the trigger in the first place.

Follow this process whenever you notice thoughts that are unkind to you. Change your beliefs and you’ll find your self-talk becoming words of encouragement, instead. It is also incredible to watch your life transform once you change your beliefs and get rid of that negative self-talk.

Ways To Teach Self Care For Kids

If you’re struggling with teaching self care for kids, you might learn something by watching what your kids do. As a family doctor in virginia beach va I often see parents struggle with self care for kids. Even if they refuse to eat Brussel sprouts, they know important facts about how to keep our bodies and minds in top shape. This may seem odd, but I find that I have learned the most from kiddos as a family doctor virginia beach va.

As adults, we sometimes neglect ourselves because we’re overwhelmed by responsibilities or feel like we don’t deserve to be treated with kindness. We often get into a pattern of doing, doing, doing an forget about ourselves. As a family doctor virginia beach we advise on how to manage your time, your energy, and your children. See how children can remind you to make yourself a priority.

Having Fun:

  1. Play games. Self-care offers serious benefits, but the process can be light-hearted. Turn your work into a game and plan fun activities for your leisure time. As a family doctor virginia beach va, I often use play therapy in my practice. Children bring in toys to review how they perceive themselves as well as their family. This is a fun and non invasive way that we can learn about ourselves.
  2. Enjoy food. You’re more likely to stick to a healthy diet if you like what you’re eating. Think of food as your friend instead of something that sticks to your hips. As a family doctor virginia beach va, we often discuss the role of diet and nutrition. We educate you on your lifestyle and the impact of that lifestyle. The food that you are eating, and why you are eating. Although food is to enjoy, we also want to balance nutrition.

  3. Sing and dance. Music relieves stress and makes tedious tasks more pleasant. Create a playlist for routine paperwork and household chores. Sing in the shower, so you can start each day with more energy. Dancing around the house can not only be fun, it can also be excellent stress relief and calorie burner.
  4. Tell a joke. Give yourself a reason to laugh. Tell a funny story to your family or friends. Watch cartoons and cat videos. Look for humor in challenging situations. As a family doctor virginia beach, I am often managing challenging cases. People wanting things to get better instantly, health does not work that way, so I tend to use humor to make things light and easy.
  5. Go barefoot. Do your feet ache by the end of the day? Going barefoot feels liberating and strengthens your muscles. Remove your shoes as often as possible. Treat yourself to a pedicure and foot massage. As a family doctor virginia beach va, I recommend going barefoot, especially at the beach to connect with the positive ions as well as nature which can have a calming effect on the body.

Taking Risks:

  1. Try new things. What would happen if we gave up because we fell down the first few times that we tried to walk? Give yourself credit for trying and value learning from experience. Children are always open to trying new things and are not afraid to fail. As adults, at times we lose that capacity, especially if we have failed at times with certain experiences. As a family doctor virginia beach, I often will review the impact of these failures at what it has created on the psyche.
  2. Make friends. Schedule your own playdates. Invite a recently hired colleague out for lunch. Introduce yourself to another student in your barre class. Especially, in the age of COVID it is important to continue to socially engage with people. Engage with friends and continue with meaningful relationships, while at the same time cutting those relationships that are draining and not working for you.
  3. Speak up. Let others know what you really think. Have deep conversations with your loved ones and contribute to business meetings. People cannot read your minds, as a family doctor virginia beach va, my job is to listen to a persons needs. Sometimes the communication is so blocked that they are not able to fully express their needs to the person who is tasked with helping them. It can be confronting to begin to open up and communicate your needs and ants with someone.
  4. Be creative. Experiment with different art forms. You may rediscover your love for finger painting or move on to metal crafting. Maybe you’ll prefer writing a novel or performing stand-up comedy. Creativity helps to release tension stored within the body. It allows you to be free and enjoy yourself. Try to incorporate some creativity into your daily routine to use a different part of your brain.
  5. Express enthusiasm. Do you feel awkward about showing your appreciation? Brighten someone’s day by paying them a sincere compliment. Give yourself a round of applause for cleaning out the garage or throwing a dinner party. As a family doctor virginia beach va, it is part of my role to be your cheerleader. This means that I will encourage you, motivate you, and push you along in the process of getting well.
Happiness and children

Other Things Your Kids Can Teach You About Self Care:

  1. Stay active. If you’re trying to push yourself to exercise, think about how children keep moving throughout the day. Working out will get easier if you make it a regular habit. Physical exercise is a quality part of anyone’s healthcare routine. I encourage a minimum of 30 mins of physical activity daily.
  2. Say no. A toddler’s favorite word can help you to honor your limits. Set boundaries and enforce them. Let others know how you expect to be treated. Turn down projects that would interfere with pursuing your main goals. Setting boundaries is key to establishing the health of a person. As a family doctor virginia beach, I encourage people to learn how to set healthy boundaries.
  3. Ask for help. You can accomplish more when you’re willing to accept assistance from others. Encourage teamwork at the office. Tell your family and friends what kind of support you need to manage health conditions or recover from a breakup. It is important to recognize that no one is superwoman. Yet often times we think we have to be superwoman, being all things to all people and juggling all things at all times. This simply is not healthy, and we do not need to do that. Sometimes it may be challenging as a family doctor virginia beach va to assist people because they are often used to doing things themselves. Allowing someone to help you truly takes growth and vulnerability.
  1. Take breaks. Adults need recess too. Use your vacation days and pause between tasks. Allowing yourself adequate downtime reduces stress and increases your productivity. Even taking an afternoon off, taking a power nap after work, etc can be helpful to restore your sanity. Allow yourself this time and space. It is not only healthy for you but it also helps to stabilize the person and keep them progressing forward. As a family doctor virginia beach, I encourage you to take breaks and take it easy without having to feel guilt and shame about it.
  2. Share your toys. Serving others is one of the most effective ways to enhance your happiness and wellbeing. Use your strengths and resources generously. Volunteer in your community and donate to worthy causes. Feed birds, pick up litter, and help your neighbors with yard work. Giving back, sharing, and contributing to life is super helpful not only for you but also your community as well.

Children may lose their socks, but they usually remember to take care of themselves. Allocating some regular me time in your busy schedule will help you to feel more connected to yourself and others. At holistic family practice, our practice is designed to help you to heal and get well. We do this through step by step lifestyle supportive changes. Lets help teach self care for kids together.

Communication: A key to forgiveness

We often discuss the need for forgiveness within our lives, but we seldom discover what happens in our human experience leading up to the discovery of the need to forgive. Communication is key to forgiveness. In our natural doing doing doing life, we avoid the practice of being, understanding, and experiencing the moment. We become squirrels in our ability to understand, interpret, and define subtle clues and trade that for large hammers over our head, telling us to wake up. Perhaps we need a google translator or the wake to notify us ahead of time of these not so pleasant discoveries, sadly many of us would ignore the signaling altogether, some would think they know better than the signaling, while alas others may just argue with the signaling… 1.2.3. Not it.

Happy elderly mother and daughter touching faces of each other while finding commonality of facial features. Jolly family sitting on sofa at home. Generation concept

Which flavor of self-denial, self-protection, and/or ego minded nature that we so choose the story is always the same. We suffer until we can no longer suffer anymore. Some of us suffer in relationships; some suffer in finances, others suffer in their health. Some suffer in all three. And the suffering runs deep. The real question is, why to choose to suffer. I think the answer lies in our unconscious mind and our lack of deep self-exploration and understanding. Truly all of the answers are within ourselves.

So if we are unable to identify the suffering that is within us on a deep cellular level because of a level of unconsciousness, this breeds self-contempt. This frequency of frustration, disappointment, anger, etc. buries itself deeply in our cell walls taking habitation until we are brave enough to open it. If we are not present with what is going on with ourselves at the moment, how are we able to communicate it clearly to another. We simply cannot. Many levels and forms of communication fall flat upon arrival. Let’s say I am unclear about my feelings and thoughts being triggered at this moment. I may or may not have the capacity to understand how I feel-1, interpret the cause of that feeling-2 take full responsibility for the feeling-3 to communicate that in a level headed non-destructive manner to another-4. I find if any one of those experiences of this formula falls short, flat, or otherwise does not work, trouble ensues.

The internal stress generates, the suffer commences, the lack of forgiveness really begins. This lack of forgiveness begins with the self — that internal frustration of not being able to honor oneself and our experience. Imagine trying to connect the dots, but you just keep missing, and even worse, every time you miss, you feel a small electrical impulse. All emotions, whether self-expressed or not, are a frequency underlying, which means that the frequency of these emotions breeds contempt, resentments, self-hatred, and, ultimately, a lack of self-forgiveness.

Young couple in love on the terrace of their home.

A lack of communication leads to frustration, which leads to a lack of forgiveness of self and others, then eventually anger, resentment, and hatred. Imagine the frustration and then anger that ensues as a child is trying to get their own way tells you no and then falls out on the floor in protest. This very emotional process is what adults and children alike experience every day from the top/down. Thoughts and emotions gone unexpressed can become volatile as expressing those thoughts and emotions in an uncompromising, inflexible, and reactive manner.

In the first few sets of Kundalini classes this month, we explored the blockages around the life and the blockages within our communication. We explored how that effects our ability to heal, especially our immune systems. If these thoughts and feelings go unexpressed, they roam around our bodies and often get stuck within our lymphatic system. Moving these subconscious thoughts and emotions throughout our circulatory and lymphatic system frees up our ability to connect as well as express those feels and thoughts that have been left stagnant within the body.

I love the gentle yet effective practice of Kundalini as it moves subtle energies throughout our bodies, allowing our hearts to open and our conscious awareness to take hold of these deeply buried wounds. It is an excellent self-healing practice that can be used to transform any lack of forgiveness of self while also supercharging your immune system for years to come… Check out my classes:

Changing the Way You Think about Yourself

Maybe you’re hard on yourself or you’re so busy with external obligations that you rarely consider your personal priorities. This is common in trauma survivors as well as to put your own personal needs last. Looking inward could help you to value yourself more and establishing healthy habits that build self love.

Meditation to start the day

Homeopathic Doctors near me share these strategies that will help you to think more highly of yourself:

  1. Accept yourself. Total family health and wellness will be able to teach you that you are worthy of love and respect just the way you are this moment. Embrace yourself with all your strengths and weaknesses. At times it is easier to accept your strengths and ignore your weaknesses, however these weaknesses are still there. The good news is that we all have weaknesses, the more you can embrace these weaknesses and accept them. Sometimes by doing this you can acknowledge and convert a weakness into a strength.
  2. Clarify your purpose. Invent your own definition of success. Ask yourself what a meaningful life means to you, even if that answer changes over time. Homeopathic doctors in my area, are trained in the subtly of shifting your life experiences into life purposes. Sometimes, our experiences in life even the most traumatic ones can lead to our greatest wisdom. That wisdom can be can be shared with others for wisdom and insight.
  3. Talk yourself up. How do you speak to yourself? Choose words that are encouraging and uplifting. Use your internal dialogue to build your confidence and manage your emotions. Total family health and wellness means that you consider the impact of self talk on the person. Negative conversations towards self such as “you are not good enough” or judging your actions instead of observing them is not healthy. These continued conversations towards self can lead to actions, behaviors, and feelings that are unhealthy.
  4. Offer forgiveness. Let go of the past so that you can move on. Take any decisions that you regret and turn them into opportunities to learn. Make amends where possible and resolve to handle things more constructively in the future. Homeopathic doctors in my area can work with a person using homeopaths to help move deep seated emotional upsets that are attached to lack of forgiveness, such as anger, grief, blame, shame, and guilt.
  5. Avoid comparisons. Facebook didn’t invent social comparisons, but social media has increased the potential for envy and inferiority complexes. Try competing with your last performance instead of living up to someone else’s standards. You’ll accomplish more if you dare to be yourself. Total family health and wellness includes limiting your screen time and not being on social media as much, especially during turbulent times as this can make things more challenging emotionally for sensitive people.
  6. Think positive. Looking on the bright side and being able to laugh at yourself makes you even more loveable. It also helps you to manage stress and deal with difficult circumstances. Homeopathic doctors in my area, are trained to help you to reframe the lower frequency emotions such as sadness, grief, etc into higher frequency emotions such as love and joy. There are even homeopaths that we can put our patients on that can help transform these emotions easily and effortlessly for the patient.

Changing the Way You Treat Yourself with total family health and wellness

Do your actions match your beliefs? You might say you love yourself, but your actions could be sending a different message. Homeopathic doctors in my area can point out the actions and behaviors that are not in alignment with your self love.

Secret to Loving Yourself

Try these techniques to treat yourself better as detailed by homeopathic doctors in my area:

  1. Practice self-care. Develop habits that keep your mind and body fit and strong. Go to bed early and exercise each day. Eat a balanced diet and watch your weight. Sometimes an act of self love means doing these things one step at a time. Start with drinking water, and master that. Then move on to eating healthy, master that. Then move on etc etc. Doing these things gently and effortlessly creates a healthy relationship with self one that is supportive and encouraging.
  2. Pick friends wisely. Surround yourself with family and friends who encourage and support you. Cultivate close relationships with others who share your goals. Engage in deep conversations where you can share your feelings and receive validation.Do not be afraid to let go of relationships that do not work for you, or experiences that are not serving you. This can sometimes be challenging when these people are family or close friends. They may not take it well, but the point is that you are doing the things that support and love yourself. It’s really not about them and their feelings.
  3. Pursue your passions. Identify the activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. Block out time each day for something you love, whether it’s a task related to your job or something you do in your leisure time. This can be something productive or not productive. These are things that bring you joy. Things you love and are passionate about in life.
  4. Set goals. Give yourself something to strive for. Working towards realistic and challenging goals builds your confidence as you add to your achievements. Big goals will need to be broken down into smaller goals. For total family health and wellness be mindful of using your time wisely and effectively. Also, do not be afraid of failing. Failing is as much a part of life striving for goals. Failure is nothing more than you making an effort to try. We often fail many times before we succeed in our goals.
  5. Maintain boundaries. Know your limits so you can define what behavior you consider acceptable. That may include physical boundaries such as needing your own space and psychological boundaries such as being entitled to your own feelings and opinions.Homeopathic doctors in my area, can teach you about setting healthy boundaries for yourself as well as learning how to communicate and set those healthy boundaries for others in your life. This will allow you to get more done and feel more inspired as you do not engage in behaviors or activities that bring your energy down.
  6. Advocate for yourself. Once you understand your needs, you can communicate them to others. You’ll grow more skillful as you practice being direct and tactful in letting someone know if they cross your boundaries. Communicating your needs is helpful to understanding and reaching a compromise with others. It is also a great way to set healthy boundaries and express what you can and cannot do for others. People cannot read minds, so it is important that you communicate your needs to others.
  7. Seek support. Ask for what you need. Let others know specifically what they can do, whether you’re looking for practical assistance like pitching in with housework or just a friendly ear to listen while you sort out your feelings. This is an extension of the last one, if you need help please reach out and ask for help. No one is expecting for you to do it yourself, so please reach out and ask for help or support if you need it.

Loving yourself can help you to enjoy more happiness, overcome challenges, and build healthier relationships with others. Make it a habit to treat yourself with kindness and respect.
