Foods of all kinds contain some level of pesticides, but you can minimize your exposure by choosing organic produce when possible and choosing foods with less protective outer layers (such as peels or rinds). Good sources include vegetables grown in gardens, home gardens, and local farmers’ markets.


Studies show that even after washing and scrubbing, pesticides can remain on fruits and vegetables, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) . The USDA’s tests showed that as much as 50% of produce tested had detectable pesticide residue.
